Celebrating Silver Jubilee of Osmania Journalism's Class of 1982
(Target Date November-December 2007)
|
| As they say, time flies. It's 25 long years, almost, that we passed out of the hallowed portals of Department of Communication and Journalism, Osmania University. Despite the passage of time, memories of the imposing, frescoed gate of the Art College building, the rickety canteen, the rock behind the bus stand and so on….. just don't fade away. It is time to go on a nostalgia trip to Osmania once again. So, just buckle up, wherever you on this planet and block the dates on your busy calendars. It's time to bring your families to Hyderabad and to the Arts College and say cheers to the Class of 1982. |
Tentatively two to three day gala celebration is planned. This would include a grand reunion of 1982 alumni and their families, half-day brain storming session on media issues with professionals and students in attendance, a nostalgia tour of the campus with family members and an out-of-town picnic for a day. The possibilities of what can be done are immense. Do send in ideas and proposals. We need to pool all our ideas and resources to make this event a memorable one. So, do respond and spread the word among fellow batch mates. Write to me or any of those in the list on this page.

Tribute to Prof S Bashiruddin
Nobody who's studied journalism at the Osmania University between 1962 and 1996, is ever likely to forget the benign presence of Prof Bashiruddin. Loved, admired and respected in equal measure by all students, he taught with rare passion and integrity. Besides, of course, journalism, he had in-depth knowledge of, and took active interest in public relations and advertising. Quite a few professionals occupying prominent positions in these fields today, owe a debt of gratitude to this great educationist who laid a solid foundation for them in their formative years. |
Apart from his distinguished stint at the Osmania University, Prof Bashiruddin served in the Film and Television Institute, Pune; NIRD, Hyderabad and was the Vice-Chancellor of Dr B R Ambedkar Open University. He was also appointed the Indian ambassador to Qatar.
He was instrumental in starting professional bodies in advertising and public relations at Hyderabad. He was the founder president of the Ad Club and founder, PRSI, and took active part in national and international fora.
